Hi Chrissie

It could be Mealy bug. I would have thought it was whitefly from what you said. I'll have a look in my book and see if I can find anything similar.

HI Chockers

It could be a type of wooly aphid theres loads of varieties. I know there are 2 types of mealy bugs one thats runs around in the roots and one that runs up and down the stems. I dont think they are white and fluffy. then theres the one called a scale insect that sticks to the stemm and the insect is underneath the casing - that has a sort of fluffy thing but the insects are underneath. Not sure how to cure that one but with aphids I would use just soapy water. You need to actually put the soapy water on teh insects as the soap blocks their air and they suffocate though it will also kill of other soft insects such as ladybirds.

I found a link that might help you. http://www.gardenbanter....09-hydrangea-probs.html

Good luck let me know how you get on - I love hydrangeas.

i then sprayed posion to kill emm hope it dont kill my lupin.

so my point is if this carries on il get rid of the lovely crowd pulling lupin and go for another fushia,ra hands cartn cope al that BUG ZAPPING.

Hi Chrissie

John and I have been through the gardening books and cannot find anything else but Woolly aphid or Mealy bug. It could be something we don't know about though. Have you tried spraying with dilute washing up liquid? Or soap?

I don't think it's scale insect, these usually have a hard case around them.

Love Lyn
